Non-Contact Inspection of Refractory Magnesia Spinel Bricks

Ultran has performed non-contact ultrasound analysis on magnesia spinel refractory bricks for the purpose of measuring density variation and other defects.

Refractory bricks are very thick and often extremely attenuative.  However, Ultran’s high sensitivity transducers and high power systems products are capable of producing high signal to noise ratios.

The measured data is significant and demonstrates a variation in density within and between refractory brick samples.
