Ultran’s non-contact ultrasound products and techniques have been used to inspect density variations in abrasive samples.

In this example, the left side of the sample includes ceramic beads, while the right side does not.  Due to the material difference, the two sides of the abrasive are expected to differ in density.

C-scans were produced to measure time of flight (TOF) and transmissivity.  The difference in transmissivity was not significant, but the shift in TOF clearly measures a distinction from one side to the other.

Thick Abrasive Material with Ceramic Beads Inserted on Left Side of Sample

Density variation is detected based on change in time of flight between one side of the abrasive material to the other.
